msm North London

Saturday, 17 April, 2010

We are delighted to make the mission shaped ministry course locally available as an effective means of training all God’s people further in mission. The course is now established in more than 30 locations nationally and over 1,000 people have been part of a local course.

We believe it will be a significant resource for the building of the Kingdom of God in this area. The course has a particular focus on the development of new areas of outreach that engages those outside the reach of traditional church. With a growing and broader ownership across the major church movements and denominations, this course has been established jointly by local church leaders and has the support of the Diocese of London and the London Methodist District.

If you are looking for a course to equip you to start a fresh expression of church or to lead a church in effective mission, then this is the course for you.

This course is designed for lay and ordained leaders and pioneers, who may already be involved in a fresh expressions project, or who are committed to exploring the idea. Whilst individuals are most welcome, we encourage teams to attend together as they can more effectively apply what is learned to their particular situation. Course participants will have online access to course materials and a broad range of online resources developed by the national Fresh Expressions team by practitioners with practical knowledge and experience of the subject areas.

The course hosts are Jonathan Kerry, Methodist Minister and Director of the Guy Chester Centre and Simon Kirby, Anglican Minister of Emmanuel Network Church, a Fresh Expression planted in 2006. Course teachers will include both those with experience of fresh expressions nationally and local teachers including Annie Kirke, Jenny Ellis, Jonny Baker, John Coles and Martyn Atkins.

Commendations

If 97% of the nation is not in church every week its either because they are not interested in spiritual things, or because ‘church' is not sufficiently interesting or interested in them. If the nation is to be changed the church has to change its way of communicating the good news about Jesus. This course has already helped many to reconnect with God's heart for the nation, and to find new ways of helping the church to find news ways of reaching the 97%. I thoroughly recommend it... but be warned... it might change your life as well as your view of church.

John Coles, Leader, New Wine

Church life in London is too fluid and diverse for labels like 'fresh' or 'traditional' – but it all needs to be mission-shaped! I welcome the opportunities offered by this course to explore what that might mean in different contexts.

Stuart Jordan, Co-Chair, Methodist Church London District

mission shaped ministry is a brilliant space to reflect on mission in today's world with others who are creatively thinking about sharing Christ in a range of contexts and situations. It covers a comprehensive range of mission themes and blends teaching and interaction well. It's even better if you attend it with some others from your team so you can dream and reflect together!
