The psychology of pioneer ministers is one of the issues to come under the spotlight at a national gathering of those involved in pioneer ministry.

Psychologist Dr Kate Middleton will attend Break Out to help pioneers learn how best to handle stress and other related demands in their particular line of ministry. Other speakers at the annual meeting place for both lay and ordained pioneers include respected theologian John Drane and the Rt Revd Ken Clarke, Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh.

Break Out pioneer gathering - open to all denominations - will run at King's Park Conference Centre, Northampton, from 5th-7th July. Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, who will become Bishop of Chelmsford later this year, said:

Conferences like this which bring together pioneer ministers are vital for the health of our Church and the development of God’s mission.

Holy Trinity Brompton vicar, Revd Nicky Gumbel, also gave his backing:

I am delighted to hear about this gathering. I pray that many, many churches will be planted as a result.

The gathering is aimed at those:

  • pioneering fresh expressions of church;
  • intending to pioneer soon;
  • training to do such work;
  • supporting and resourcing pioneers.

Church Army's chief executive Mark Russell added:

Break Out is the annual meeting place for those involved in a range of different pioneering ministries. This exciting event sees practitioners from across the board coming together to learn together, minister to one another and share each others stories.
